FLEET 42 FAMILY FUN DAY - SATURDAY, may 17, LAKE PLEASANT:  PLEASE RSVP TO SCOTT AGAN IF YOU ARE GOING UP.  IF WE DON'T HEAR FROM ANYONE, WE WILL ASSUME NO ONE IS GOING AND WILL STAY IN TOWN.  THANKS !

Ready for some lake sailing ?!? Lake Pleasant has some cat-friendly shoreline (rocky, so bring those skids).  Getting shoreline area big enough for a group will be a bit of a challenge, so if you are early to the lake spread out !   Directions to the meeting and launching area:  Go through the west side entrance of Lake Pleasant (NOT THE EAST/MARINA SIDE).  The first right turn will be SOUTH PARK ROAD.  Follow this (past the first left turn which will be Desert Tortoise).  Go 1 or 1.1 mile to a 35 MPH sign, 0.1 mile beyond that there is a left-hand turn up a (now) paved road.  Follow that paved road to the left and around the hill to the lake.  Continue on to where it joins another old paved road.  Turn left.  At this point you should see boats.  If the turn off to this paved road is closed, continue on to the 10-lane boat ramp area, go West through the parking lot and take the dirt road along the retention dam to the above area.  I (Claudia) will be out early that a.m. to try to save some shoreline.  I will be in a tan Honda CRV.   Bring the whole family and all your water toys. Experienced sailors to help you novices or those wanting to learn about cat sailing.  Hope to see you there! - scottagan@earthlink.net

ROCKY POINT CHALLENGE - April 19-20, 2008  Go to azcatsailor.com for regatta results.  Photos soon.  Saturday was BIG wind and BIG water, but we managed to pull off a long triangle race and off the water by 1:30.  Sunday winds were up in the a.m., but diminished with the changing of the tide.  Still, we had three triangle races for the series with everyone off the water by 2:30.  Thanks to everyone who helped, especially our Race Committee/Panga chase boat volunteers, Lila and Khanh !  Could not have done it without you !  Scott Agan did a terrific job on awards using a beautiful sunset photo of Playa Bonita Beach at sunset.  And thanks to everyone at the potluck for my good birthday wishes and cake.  Another fun weekend, thank you all for participating !

* TONTO PASSES FOR THE LAKE *  IMPORTANT ! ! !  TONTO NATIONAL FOREST HAS
IMPLEMENTED NEW RECREATION PASS PROGRAM.  TNF has done away with its vending
machine day pass system.  As of October 2, 2006, you will have to BUY your day
and/or overnight PASSES IN ADVANCE.  The daily use fee amounts have not been
changed.  You will still have to post your permit on the dashboard of your
vehicle.  Each pass is good for a 24-hour visit and may be used at more than one
location during the specified 24 hour period.
You can purchase your day permits at the Forest Service, Mesa Ranger
District Office (480-610-3300 for address and hours or find out where else day
permits can be purchased in advance) or go to http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/tp/index.shtml
In addition, several retail vendors have agreed to work in partnership
with the TNF, providing over 80 outlets where the passes and stickers can be
purchased.  Many outlets are in the Phoenix metropolitan area and nearby forest
locations with others in Tucson, Flagstaff, Prescott, Casa Grande, Globe, and
Payson.  Vendors at this time include Jake's Corner at on the way to L.
Roosevelt, the new grocery store in Punkin Center,  Bartlett Lake Marina, Butcher
Hook Store on the way to L. Roosevelt,  Big 5 Sporting Goods (21 of 25 Az
locations), Canyon Lake marina, Circle K stores (38 of 400+ Az locations), HWY 188
Tackle & Supply, Kilmer's Kountry Store, Orange Food Store #8, The Tackle box,
and Tortilla Flat.  You can also purchase them online at http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/tp/index.shtml

* * PLAYA BONITA RV PARK RESERVATIONS - This is just a reminder to EVERYONE
to get your   reservations in early to Playa Bonita by mail prior to our Mexico
events.  Depending on the event, be sure to put under Requests 'Spring or
Fall Rocky Point Challenge' or 'SailFest' plus my name, Claudia Kirscher.  This
is how the reservations are listed.  Please remember that 7 days prior to our
event I will be calling Playa Bonita and releasing and 'giving back' those
spaces not yet reserved so that Playa Bonita does not charge us for these spaces.  DO
NOT EXPECT TO HAVE A SPACE IF YOU DID NOT MAIL IN A DEPOSIT !  Fleet 42 DOES
NOT handle the actual individual camp spot reservations nor do we collect the
$$.  This must be done by contacting Playa Bonita RV Park and making the
appropriate deposit to Playa Bonita for reservations.  Not my rules, I'm only the
messenger.  Thanks !   Blank reservation forms can be downloaded from fleet42.com
and azcatsailor.com

* * NEW POLICY AT PLAYA BONITA - For those not actually staying at the RV
park, you are no longer able to park boat trailers and extra vehicles at the back
wall.  You will need to rent a camping space to store your trailer.  Consider
sharing a space with someone.  See if you can park your vehicle with someone
in Fleet 42 with a campsite.

* FAMILY FUN WEEKENDS - Sponsored by Az catamaran Fleets 42, 66, and 514.  We
will be at Lake Pleasant this spring.  Lake Roosevelt is at capacity and because of this

water covers the camping and launch sites.  Bermuda campground is closed until further

notice.  Bring the family and all your water toys for the day at Lake Pleasant.  There are developed campsites

at Lake Pleasant.  Shoreline camping is rocky, down sloping, and hard to come by.

No boat ?  No problem !  We will have experienced fleet members there to help you set up and tune your
boat, instruct you on crewing (if no boat), sailing lessons, and lots of sailor
socializing !   scottagan@earthlink.net

* PASSPORTS - As of January 31, 2008 - you MUST have a passport to enter BACK

into the United States regardless of your mode of travel (plane, water, land
travel).  DON'T PROCRASTINATE !    This applies to travel from Mexico and
Canada back into the United States.  Because of the high demand for passports,
I've read that new applications can take up to 3 months and that renewals can
take just as long.
You may also use BOTH a drivers license AND a birth certificate.

* MEXICAN VEHICLE PERMITS  - The Mexican State of Sonora has changed the
vehicle free-zone to southern Sonora (Guaymas).  You no longer need to purchase a
vehicle permit until after Guaymas.  You DO still need to stop at the border
for a tourist permit when traveling into Sonora.  You do NOT need a tourist
permit to travel to Puerto Penasco.
