2010– A great New Year of Sailing |

2010 is shaping up to be a great opportunity to take that catamaran or trimaran out and get it wet. Fleet 42 has just posted its schedule for the year on www.fleet42.org website. Get the calendars out and save the dates for this year’s events.
Third weekend of the month— This year all of the Fleet Family Fun weekends will be held on the third weekend of the month. We will announce the lake as we know about conditions. Look for a trip or two to Alamo Lake in west central AZ. Great Wind !
Sailfest—March 20-21 at Playa Bonita RV Park, Rocky Point, Mexico. Our Fleet’s fabulous Spring event in the Sea of Cortez. Be sure to get your reservations in to Playa Bonita as soon as possible. The forms are available at fleet42.org.
Rocky Point Challenge - October 2-3 Please note this date is a big change from our prior events. The reason behind this change is that we are sailing in conjunction with the Hobie Fleet. See the article below for more details.
Other times, several other fleet members are out at the lake. Let’s try to meet up and have fun together. Bring your friends and a boat!
Call, text or email Julianne at 602-549-7305 or blueprindle739@yahoo.com for more information.

Catamarans Unite! |
This year Fleet 42 and Hobie Fleet 514 are holding a joint regatta in Rocky Point, Mexico. A first for both fleets, this event should be a great event for all sailors. While there will still be “little boat” and “big boat” starts, the Hobie’s will be starting their classes as well. The events will be concurrent and share starting lines, marks, and pangas. The great part will be having so many more boats in the water and on the beach. Scott Agan and Terry Marshall are ironing out the details and will make sure it turns out to be an exciting event for all. Be sure to get your reservations in early and be ready to race! |

Year End Party A Huge Success |

The sailors came out from everywhere for the 2009 Year End Party. Members, both old and new, brought tons of delicious food and drink. Hosts, Katy James and Scott Agan, provided a great venue for over 30 members of the fleet. This year’s event was truly a cause for celebration as Claudia Kirscher moved into her new position as staff commodore for the fleet. The fleet gave her a nice gift of a two piece dry suit as a thank you for her years of service to the fleet as its secretary. THANK YOU AND WELCOME ABOARD! To Julianne Berge for graciously taking over the Board position of Secretary of Multihull Fleet 42.
It was great seeing everyone and meeting some people we haven’t seen for quite a while. Now let’s get a turn out like that for one of our events out at the lake! |

AYC’s Birthday Regatta & Leukemia Cup |
This year’s Arizona Yacht Club’s Birthday Regatta & Leukemia Cup were held on January 15-17. There was a nice field of multi-hulls—everything from a Prindle 16 to a Corsair 27. There were seven boats at the event but only 5 completed races. Only one Hobie cat made it for some of the races on Saturday. (Calling all Hobie’s—Where are you?) Friday’s wind was fantastic up until about 12:30. By two o’clock, we were paddling our way back to shore –typical Lake Pleasant weather. That weather patterned stayed with us all weekend. A special recognition to Sean Eanes & Chris on the blue Prindle 16—they are both amputees and this was their first race together on a cat. They are also resourceful—they used their prostheses as paddles when the wind died off completely. Hope to see them out more often. For the results, the Corsair took first all three days, Brett Johnston took second (and tied for first) on his Nacra 6.0 “Wet Kitty” and Emmanuel Dagnet took third on the “Wild Kitty” Nacra 5.8. See you there next year! PS— see some video footage on Fleet42.org courtesy of Christopher Prosnier |

The Border Run |
Time is fast approaching for the second annual Border Run. It’s a race from Newport Beach to San Diego and last year Fleet 42 supplied 4 out of the 5 catamarans involved in the race. As of today, there are already 2 boats from Fleet 42 signed up. This race is limited to boats 17 feet or longer. It is a long, mostly downwind race (over 66 miles). Yet, it is one of the most exhilarating races in which to participate. You really get to see the California coastline in a whole new way. Check out some of the pictures and race details at www.theborderrun.org. It’s a great opportunity to sail with the “big boys”, their luxurious yachts, and beat them into shore by hours. We need to have an even better turn out this year. Let’s show those California cats that desert sailors know our stuff. |
