Past Event May 2011 Family Fun Weekend

We had a great time at the May Family Fun Weekend at Lake Pleasant. We had 9 boats show up for the weekend. Manny and Julianne were the first ones to get there and were able to spread out for all of us to have our boats right on shore in front of us. Katy and I brought the G-Cat 5.7, Manny and Julianne brought the Nacra 5.8, Brett Johnson brought his Nacra 5.7, Robin and Dan were their with their Hobie 16, Scott Winkler was able to come out with the repaired Nacra 5.8, Jim Tomes brought out the HC18, Mike Barzee brought the Capri 14.2, but sailed with Brett, Jonathon Magick and family brought their Hobie 16, and Michelle Eddy was able to come with her Hobie Wave.

The wind was favorable all weekend, so much that Manny’s boat even tried to go out and sail all by it’s self. Katy and I had a great time on the G-Cat. We are getting more comfortable with the boat and we had some great runs just sailing in the little bay to the west of the camping area. Jims HC18 is just one FAST boat. Brett, Manny, Jim, Scott Winkler, and Robin and Dan all took off and went to the north end of the lake. The boats with Spinnakers popped them and raced all the way back to the camp ground. It didn’t take them very long. Brett was kind enough to give Mike Barzee a ride of his life. They went out and sailed, Mike being able to get out on the wire and run the spin. When they came back in, Mike had the biggest smile on his face. Thanks to everyone that was able to attend the May Family Fun Weekend! All in all, a fun time! Let’s go SAILING!

Catamarans Unite!

This year Fleet 42 and Hobie Fleet 514 are holding a joint regatta in Rocky Point, Mexico. The Second for both fleets, this event should be a great event for all sailors. While there will still be “little boat” and “big boat” starts, the Hobie’s will be starting their classes as well. The events will be concurrent and share starting lines, marks, and pangas. The great part will be having so many more boats in the water and on the beach. Be sure to get your reservations in early and be ready to race!
